"When I first embarked on designing the workshop in homage to the Greek goddess Athena, I believed she had long since withered within me, her rational power drained away.

I was convinced that I had silenced her sharp, warlike nature and that her reign in my life had ended long ago—back in the days of high school and my early forays into Cultural Studies.

Yet, the study of archetypes and the deeply personal exploration of the body through dance—drawn by the vivid presence of the inner Artemis—pulled me into a world far removed from Athena's cool logic.

As I ventured deeper into these realms, I began to realize that Athena still held significance in my life. Though my work required the intuitive depth of Persephone, the nurturing devotion of Demeter, and the wild, soulful expression of Artemis, Athena’s influence was not entirely lost.

But let us return to our first goddess...

Athena is that inner voice urging us to organize our lives with care, reminding us to have strategies in place for the challenges we face.

She sharpens our intellect, weaving the fabric of our conscious thoughts, and she emerges when we are thrown into critical situations, where turbulent emotions threaten to overwhelm us, yet we find the strength to remain calm and seek the most logical, practical solutions.

Indeed, this sounds like a masculine principle, and rightly so—for Athena, the goddess of war and strategy, was born from the head of Zeus.

In myth, Zeus swallowed Athena’s mother, the cunning goddess Metis, whose name meant wisdom and craft. He feared a prophecy that foretold a remarkable successor who would overthrow him. By consuming Metis, Zeus not only sought to protect his throne but also to demonstrate to his wife Hera that he alone could create life, thus stripping her of her feminine power and further diminishing her.

This act reveals much about Athena’s dual nature—both the cunning of Metis and the martial prowess of Zeus—and how she embodies a balance of wisdom and strategy, intellect and force."
