Four survivor's archetypes - Victim, Saboteur, Prostitute and Child - are the most important pillars of our personalities and most common, universal and actively awakened archetypes in our psyche.

Caroline Myss also calls them survival archetypes, because they represent 4 pillars that hold together the “house”of ourselves. They are universal, because they are played by every single person on this earth. They work simultaneously, while at the same time, they interact with all other eight personal archetypes. If a person is overwhelmed by the influence of one of the four universal archetypes or if he/she is literally "scratched" in a negative or positive plane of it, this will affect the intensity of the action of the other eight. For example, sometimes the negative side of the victim in men prevents their hero from expressing its positive qualities. Therefore, excessive activation of the universal archetypes can inhibit or encourage expression of other archetypes within us.

A spiritual journey through the study of prostitute, victim, child and saboteur leads us through lessons that teach us how to use our power, and above all, how our self-esteem is expressed. According to Caroline Myss, self-confidence is almost better and more effective guideline in our lives than love. Self-confidence is a skill and we can develop, engage, nurture and learn it. When love on the other hand, is an ever present and all-embracing force in the universe. From the way we manage our self-confidence, however, it depends on how the love will manifest itself. Similarly, we can train our intuition as it is not self-evident to a person, but can only be emphasized at birth or given as a special talent. It is possible, however, to awaken and develop it throughout our lifetime.

These four archetypes therefore represent the trunk of the tree along with the roots, and all other archetypes are branches that spread to the heavens and function interdependently to these four.
